Toenail fungus which is also called onychomycosis by its medical name is a common condition that causes yellow toenails that are disfigured. As this fungus grows it invades the hard surface of your toenails and usually ends up destroying your toenails over time.
Causes and Cures

Wearing tight fitting shoes and not allowing you shoes to dry between wearing. Nail fungus thrives and grows in the moist warm environment in your shoes.
Cure
Wear shoes or sandals that allow air flow to your feet. If you do wear a closed shoe make sure to rotate your shoes so that they can dry out before you wear them again.
Cause
Walking bare-foot in locker rooms and community showers.
Cure
Wearing something like flip-flops, shower shoes or sandals anytime you are at a public place with bacteria exposed especially showers and locker rooms.
Cause
Having poor foot hygiene.
Cure

Some people consider toenail fungus nothing more than a cosmetic problem and don’t bother treating it. But toenail fungus rarely goes away and heals on its own. It is long-term condition that gradually gets worse left untreated. Even you toenail comes off, the new nail that grows in its place is usually infected with the fungus.
When you do treat your nail fungus, make sure to continue your treatments until all signs of the foot fungus have disappeared. A reduction in symptoms may make you think it’s gone but it does not mean that your fungus is cured. Maintain treatment until your nails are totally healthy and normal again. That could mean several months or even a year but the results are definitely worth it.
The important thing is not to ignore this condition. These are just a few causes and cures of nail fungus and there are many more precautions and toenail fungus treatments that can help you with this condition.

If you are suffering from nail fungus or Onychomycosisa finding a toenail fungus treatment that works is something you may have to hunt around for. One of the reasons I created this blog is because I suffered with this condition for years until I finally found a successful treatment for toenail fungus that worked surprisingly well for me and still does.
Toenail fungus happens when fungi gets under your toenails and the skin underneath your nail. You can also get fingernail fungus but most often your toenails tend to be more at risk than your fingernails.
Toenail fungus symptoms include cracked or yellow toenails discolored, streaked, thickened, or spotted nails. Even if you want to ignore or hide your symptoms, fungal nail infections will not go away without treatment. The treatment for toenail fungus comes in topical form that you apply directly to your skin and also as pills. The pills fight your infection from inside your body.
If you are worried about the risks of taking pills look for a natural toenail fungus treatment. The pills give the best chance of curing a severe fungal nail infection so it’s worth it to find some that agree with you. It’s what tends to keep the fungus away at least in my case it did and several other sufferers I’ve talked with.
Once your infection has cleared up, it’s advised to use daily measures to prevent it from coming back. Many of the first toenail fungus cures would work for me in the beginning but my yellow toenails eventually came back. Once I discovered what the real cause was I took daily precautions to keep it away and that is what worked.
Some of those daily measures are:
Make sure to apply powder to your dry feet or hands after you take a shower or bath. Dry skin and nails are less likely to become infected.
Wear sandals that allow your foot moisture to escape. Wearing tight toes is the biggest single reason why a fungal nail infection returns.
Before you go to bed, thoroughly wash and dry your feet and apply a topical treatment for toenail fungus.
You may need to use the topical medicine for up to 1 year. I know that seems like a long time but these are very powerful fungi and they can become dormant for a long time. By keeping your treatment ongoing it kills any stubborn fungus that wants to remain dormant for months or even up to a year.
I hope this information helps you and I created this blog because I wanted you to know there is hope. You don’t have to live with this horrible condition that is embarrassing to say the least. I hid my condition for years and finally decided to get rid of it once and for all.
It’s no secret what treatment for toenail fungus I used because I have a link to it on the right side of this page. It worked for me and continues to and believe me I’ve tried a lot of them. But I’ll let you decide if it may be a toenail fungus treatment that works for you.
